Act I: Wake Above The Snowline / 02:10 / Snowline Supply Station

The Stove Is Out

The supply station floor holds its shape inside the blizzard, but only barely. Wind presses against every seam with the steady patience of a locked door being tested from the outside. Snow dust lifts from the floor whenever the station frame flexes.

You focus on the dead stove and the radio blinking beside it. It looks ordinary until the storm makes it important: metal gone pale with cold, tape labels lifting at the corners, a surface marked by hands that were working quickly and not telling the whole truth.

A voice on the radio says, We can see the station, then repeats the distance as three hundred meters. The message should make rescue simpler, yet the timing turns it into evidence. Above the snowline, a clear voice can be more dangerous than static because a clear voice can ask you to move before you have checked the route.

The ceiling beam ticks with cold, and the door mat is wet with snow carried inward from boots that are not beside you. Heat, battery, food, visibility, rescue signal, and evidence are not separate counters here. They are the same question asked in six different ways: what can still be trusted before the mountain closes?

You slow yourself down and make the station answer in physical facts. A latch either holds or it does not. A marker points one way or another. Footprints keep their direction even when a frightened voice tries to explain them away.

You mark the stove, radio, door, and storage shelves as the first four facts that can keep you alive long enough to ask who is calling. The next action will not only move you across the map. It will decide whether the rescue board becomes a route home, a false route outward, or a record for the next person who wakes beside the cold stove.
